Bubble Charts with stories

Filed under: General — Prakash @ 4:34 am

You have probably heard Hans Rosling, zen master of statistics on TED. If not, please STOP everything right now and check out his presentations on TED talk or here. You will not regret it.

It is fascinating to see how GapMinder can say such powerful stories with simple bubble charts. You can find some examples on Garr’s blog, Presentation Zen. By the way, this is another blog to bookmark. I have learnt a lot on presentations and design from his book and blog.

Now, the challenge is can we create a Gapminder type chart using OBIEE? Most of the features are straightforward (image prompts, filters etc.). The only complex part to me is Chart animation.  This isn’t possible with current OBIEE release but chart sliders in 11g hold the promise.

I will try to build a GapMinder look-a-like chart with OBIEE once 11g becomes generally available. For now, I will just go and look at more trends (err. stories) at Gapminder.

Hello World!

When I first started working with Oracle technologies, there were hardly any oracle blogs out there except few notable ones.

A quick search on google today would list hundreds of blogs on everything Oracle and it is quickly becoming the best place to find information.

Little late to arrive on blogsphere, I hope to share my experiences on Oracle and life in general.
